PURPOSE
The Mechanical Technician is responsible for ensuring the
reliable, safe and efficient operation of mechanical equipment across flour
milling and packaging operations. The role involves executing preventive
maintenance, fault diagnosis and corrective repairs to minimize downtime,
support continuous production, and ensure compliance with food safety,
mechanical integrity and plant safety standards.
THE JOB
- Carry out planned preventive maintenance on
mechanical equipment to minimize breakdowns, including lubrication, alignment,
inspection and mechanical adjustments.
- Troubleshoot
mechanical faults, identify root causes of equipment failures and implement
effective corrective actions.
- Perform
mechanical repairs, overhauls and replacement of worn or damaged components as
required.
- Support
maintenance of milling, conveying and packing equipment including rollers,
gearboxes, bearings, chains, belts, conveyors, baggers and associated systems.
- Collaborate
with production teams to plan and execute maintenance activities during
shutdowns and minimize production downtime.
- Participate
in equipment installation, commissioning and modification activities as
required.
- Ensure all mechanical works comply with plant
safety rules, lock out/tag out procedures and food safety requirements.
- Maintain
accurate records of inspections, maintenance activities, repairs and spare
parts usage
THE
PERSON MUST
- Have
good working knowledge of industrial mechanical systems, rotating equipment,
power transmission components and the ability to interpret mechanical drawings
and manuals.
- Demonstrate
strong troubleshooting, analytical and problem solving skills in an industrial
maintenance environment.
- Show
strong awareness of mechanical and machine safety requirements, including LOTO
and safe work practices.
- Understand
and comply with food safety and hygiene standards applicable to flour milling
operations.
- Be
well organized, detail oriented and capable of managing multiple maintenance
tasks in a production driven environment.
- Possess
effective verbal and written communication skills for collaboration with other
teams.
QUALIFICATION
- 5
O’Level credits, including Mathematics and English.
- NABTEB
/ City & Guilds (C&G) Technical in Electrical or related discipline.
EXPERIENCE
- Minimum
of 2 years’ experience in mechanical maintenance within a manufacturing or
related industrial environment.
