PURPOSE
To support sensory evaluation activities used to assess the taste, aroma, texture, appearance, and overall quality of products.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Prepare and present product samples for sensory evaluations in line with approved procedures.
- Assist in organizing and coordinating sensory panel sessions, including trained panels and consumer testing activities.
- Accurately record panellist's responses and maintain detailed sensory evaluation records.
- Ensure sensory testing environments are clean, controlled, and free from bias or contamination.
- Label, code, and randomize samples to facilitate blind testing and maintain result integrity.
- Support data entry, collation, and basic analysis of sensory evaluation results.
- Maintain inventory of sensory materials, equipment, and consumables.
- Adhere to food safety, hygiene, and quality management standards at all times.
- Support the development and continuous improvement of sensory evaluation methods and procedures.
- Assist in the training and calibration of sensory panellists.
- Collaborate with Product Development, Quality Assurance, Production, and Marketing teams to support product innovation and quality improvement initiatives.
- Support benchmarking studies, shelf-life evaluations, and new product development projects.
THE PERSON MUST
- Have a strong interest in food quality, sensory science, and consumer preferences.
- Possess good observational skills with the ability to identify subtle differences in taste, aroma, texture, and appearance.
- Demonstrate excellent attention to detail and accuracy in data recording.
- Have basic knowledge of sensory evaluation techniques and testing methodologies.
QUALIFICATION
- National Diploma in Food Science, Nutrition, Chemistry, Biochemistry, or a related discipline.
EXPERIENCE
- Minimum of one (1) to two (2) years' experience in sensory evaluation, product development, quality assurance, or a related role within an FMCG or food manufacturing environment.
